The Mid-Atlantic Technology, Research and Innovation Center (MATRIC) is an independent, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) corporation headquartered in West Virginia. World-class scientists in the areas of chemical and environmental technologies and advanced softrware systems partner with higher education, industry, and government to conduct market-driven research and development and to commercialize resulting products and services. With superior leadership from a quality professional management team, a committed board of directors, and an outstanding technical staff, MATRIC is well positioned to make an impact locally, nationally, and internationally.
MATRIC also offers R&D and technical services of a commercial nature through its wholly owned for-profit subsidiary, Mid-Atlantic Commercial Research (MCR).
Through this arrangement, MATRIC capabilities are made available to meet a wide variety of industrial customer needs.
Mission
To create unique value for our world-wide customers through market-driven innovation in chemical, energy, and environmental technologies and software engineering.
Vision
To be recognized as the strategic innovation partner of choice for customers where science and technology provide a competitive advantage.
Business Model
As a nonprofit organization, MATRIC does not have stockholders or investors. All retained earnings will be used to fund the growth of the organization.
As research projects are performed, it is our intention to develop intellectual property that will have commercial applications. The commercialization of this technology, either through licensing arrangements, outright sale, or spin-off of new companies, will generate income that will be used to reduce company overhead.
Retained earnings will also be used to fund internal R&D projects to investigate new concepts and growth areas for the company.
Strategic Objectives
After starting with a single employee in mid-2004, MATRIC has now grown to more than 100 employees, with plans to reach a size of several hundred within a few years.
MATRIC will have offices and R&D locations throughout West Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region, to better interact with a wide range of customers and partners.
MATRIC will continue to have primary areas of technical focus, and it is expected that these areas will grow and develop in new directions as the company grows in size.
It is our firm intention for MATRIC to be a preferred supplier of high-quality and high-value R&D services to a growing collection of customers and partners in academia, industry and government.
