Jay Long has a wide range of experience in chemistry and information technology research and development. His areas of expertise include software design, development, integration, quality assurance, administration and support, utilizing a variety of programming languages, development tools and databases. He also has significant experience with molecular modeling and cheminformatics. Before coming to MATRIC, Jay was the Information Systems Architect for the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. He designed and put into production an electronic data interchange that facilitates the annual management of over $70 million in state-supported financial aid. Prior to working for the state of WV, as a contractor for the Union Carbide Catalyst Skill Center in corporate R&D, he performed molecular modeling and computational studies for catalyst and materials research. He joined the Dow Chemical Company, after its merger with Union Carbide, where he worked in the New Products and Math Modeling group and contributed in the research and development of a high-throughput computational chemistry and informatics environment for new materials research. During his time with MATRIC, he has worked on projects in software development and validation in support of NASA. He holds a BS in Chemistry from Marshall University and a MS in Chemistry from the University of South Carolina.
